Welcome to my website. I am a cancer scientist by profession and a resident of Medford, MA. I am passionate about environmental justice & healthy living, animal welfare sustainability and low waste lifestyle.
I envision Zero Waste Medford to be volunteer-led initiative striving to improve the health and sustainability of our community and environment. It will be built upon a strong partnership between volunteers, private groups/organizations, and the City of Medford to drastically reduce materials sent to landfill or incineration, improving the health of families, children, and elders. This initiative will help Medford achieve the goals listed in its Climate Action Plan.
I truly believe in coming together as a community to collectively fight for what we feel is important. To this effect, I am actively involved in various projects across Medford
In association with Trees Medford, I am working on creating an urban forest that grows rapidly and is self-sustaining. It involves planting a diverse mix of native trees and shrubs at a high density to mimic natural forest ecosystems, making them self-sustaining within about three years and a mature forest in a much shorter time than conventional methods. This results in increased biodiversity, carbon capture, and improved air and water quality, especially in urban areas
As a board member of Mystic River Watershed Association (MyRWA), I am working on their CLEANAIR and greenways project. The CLEANAIR project aims to work with local governments on infrastructure projects by providing them with quantitative data captured scientifically to show how transportation-related air pollution. You can learn more about MyRWA and their projects here.
In association with Tufts University and Medford Energy and Environment Committee, I helped create a free flea market that helped lower-income people and new students moving into Medford avail items that were headed to landfills, thereby promoting reuse and community based item-swaps.
I co-founded an international animal rescue organization Feet For Paws focusing on rescuing stray dogs and cats and performing Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) and vaccination campaigns.
Locally in Medford, Malden and neighboring areas, I help trap stray cats that are then vaccinated and placed for adoption through Charles River Alleycats organization.
